The busiest library in the state by square foot area required a new facade to reflect its community importance and to resolve a variety of functional difficulties around the building entrance. A new cantilevered marquee is clad with sandblasted glass inscribed with a community-selected honor roll of book titles and authors. A horizontal bay window across the front of the children's reading area provides a child scaled reading niche while high operable clerestory windows let light and natural ventilation deep into the reading areas. The staff offices are buffered from the busy front entrance by a series of ceremonial steel columns and translucent glass privacy screens.
